Whyteleafe Hall and Portcullis Club, a former Officers' Mess and RAFA Club are owned by Ofcom. The main building, Whyteleafe Hall, is a Grade II listed building and is currently used as office accommodation. The Portcullis Club is let to the Royal Air Forces Association on a short term lease and is used as a clubhouse.
The property is approached from Whyteleafe Hill along a metalled lane through Coxes Wood leading to parking areas to the front and rear of the main building. The property comprises a large, irregular shaped site of 10.72ha / 26.48 acres of varying topography and vegetation. The eastern sector of the site is wooded and slopes towards Whyteleafe Hill.
The whole property extends to about 37,523 sq ft / 3,486 sq m (gross internal area) consisting of the main building and Portcullis Club, including 1,518 sq ft / 141 sq m space in a building that is understood to have bee built as a squash court.
The attractive main building was built in the 1930s and comprises the historic former Officers' Mess of RAF Kenley where WWII flying ace Sir Douglas Bader was stationed. It is a grandiose two-storey red brick block under a pitched, tiled roof with Portland stone portico and surrounds. Accommodation is arranged over the ground and first floors with ancillary accommodation in two, two-storey extensions, the East and West wings, which interconnect with the main building. The wings are of a similar but less grandiose construction to the main building. The accommodation consists of a variety of large cellular offices and meeting rooms, many with comfort cooling.
The Portcullis Club is set away and to the south of the main building. The building is a simple single floor construction of approximately 1,894 sq ft (176 sq m) gross internal area. Adjacent to the clubhouse is a substantial subterranean air-raid shelter and a large but semi-derelict brick building believed to have been squash courts.
The property provides an excellent opportunity to a wide range of potential purchasers to acquire these premises in a highly accessible location with a wide range of possible uses.
